DETROIT - Dec. 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Detroit is attempting to create an upward economic cycle. That cycle begins with equipping every resident with income, job or career. After the 2008 recession wiped out nearly 1 million unskilled Automotive production jobs, Detroit’s young people are facing 50% unemployment as typical entry level retail jobs are going to more mature residents.

What these young people do not realize, they, with the assistance of the increasing Chinese wage rate, are powering a massive return of jobs to America.

Automation, whether a 5000 pound robot, or a mobile app, has created a demand for a new level of skills in electronics, programming and mechanical disciplines. This demand has caused an expansion of apprenticeship and skilled trade Career openings. Ironically, these skilled trade jobs are in a plethora of industries - construction, , manufacturing, IT and health care. Sadly the basic skill of computer programming is not offered to urban middle and high school students.

Automation Workz, a live scavenger hunt, was born to expose families, both parents and students, to the necessity of computer programming classes to secure future career opportunities. Join Ida Byrd-Hill, President of Uplift, Inc. host of Automation Workz and Lori Roberts, a math teacher who organized 15 Durfee Middle School families to attend Automation Workz 2015.

Automation Workz 2015 was held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Cobo Hall during the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Families scurried from exhibit to exhibit, from activity to activity as shown in this video,  http://upliftinc.org/automation_workz.aspx The top three families who generated the most points won cash prizes of $200, $150 and $100.Automation Workz is returning to the show Saturday, January 23, 2016 1 – 5 pm.

As residents spend their income at retail stores, those retailers purchase more products from manufacturers. Those manufacturers hire more people create a never ending upward economic spiral. Give the HOPE of a Job - Automation Workz.
