The Trinity Jazz Festival is renowned for bringing to Houston world-class jazz artists Ellis Marsalis, Kirk Whalum, Tom Scott, and Kevin Mahogany. Located in the heart of Midtown, Trinity Episcopal Church established the festival in 2000 as part of its outreach mission. Free master classes are held as part of the festival, with special focus on students from local middle schools, high schools, and colleges. Winners of a middle school and high school soloist competition will receive a cash scholarship and the opportunity to play a song at the festival.

Nicknamed “Deedles,” Diane Schuur has a distinguished recording career that spans three decades, including two Grammy awards and three additional Grammy nominations. Schuur’s music has explored almost every corner of the 20th century landscape, and she has headlined many of the world’s most prestigious music venues, including Carnegie Hall and The White House. Her latest CD is I Remember You (With Love to Stan and Frank), in which she pays homage to two of her mentors, Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra.

Special guest Dennis Dotson has played jazz for over 40 years, including as trumpet soloist in the Woody Herman and Buddy Rich big bands as well as in many other well-known jazz bands.

A prolific and versatile composer, arranger, and producer, Paul English has written music for jazz and theater art groups, as well as symphony and chamber orchestras, film, and television. English was instrumental in founding the Trinity Jazz Festival and has created and presented nine jazz masses celebrating music legends such as Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Louis Armstrong. Among his many roles, he is also jazz ensemble director for the 12:30pm Sunday jazz service at Trinity Episcopal Church.
