Other benefits include free admission to artist demonstrations, discounts on exhibition entry fees, reduced rates on art classes and workshop, and discounted art supplies. Juror Heather Cammarata-Seale, PhD selected twenty-nine pieces from over 160 entries submitted by Members of The Center. Cammarata-Seale awarded four prizes. The “Best in Show” award went to Patricia Dusman (Doylestown, Pennsylvania) In explaining her selection process, Cammarata-Seale stated, “Overall, I wanted this exhibition to focus on materiality, in particular how artists are pushing their preferred medium into new, interesting, or unexpected directions. The pieces I selected for awards were exemplary of this mentality. The Best in Show piece by Patricia Dusman demonstrated how encaustic can create amazing depth on a two-dimensional surface. Paintings by Ten and Michael Zambelli, which straddle the line between abstraction and representation, seem to pulsate with life and embody a sense of nostalgia or longing, respectively. The ceramic piece by Blanche Somer challenges expectations - what is typically sturdy and solid is now light and airy.” Dr. Heather Cammarata-Seale is the Curator for the Corporate Art Program at Johnson & Johnson and the Curatorial Associate for the department of Contemporary and Modern Art at the Princeton University Art Museum. She recently earned her PhD in Modern and Contemporary Art from Rutgers University. Her dissertation, entitled Embodied Paradox: Contemporary Art and Taxidermy, 1990 – Present, investigates the historical, cultural, and theoretical implications surrounding the use of taxidermy in contemporary art. Her research interests are varied and interdisciplinary in nature, extending beyond Art History into the fields of Animal Studies, New Materialism, and Ecocriticism. In the past, Heather held curatorial internships at the Zimmerli Art Museum, the Morgan Library, and the Brooklyn Museum and was a Museum Educator at the Guggenheim Museum.
