This is the second year that the Bear Creek community has partnered with Strong Against Cancer. Last year the students sold 130 capes and held a benefit concert, raising $1,510 to support cancer research. This week was filled with community-building events including an all-school breakfast, a ParentNet workshop entitled Raising a Courageous Generation, and our Adopt-a-Grizzly basketball program during which K-6 classes “adopt” JV and varsity basketball players. These young fans and their families are encouraged to attend the home basketball games on January 29 to cheer on their adopted players and demonstrate their support for Strong Against Cancer by wearing purple. The support for Strong Against Cancer continues next week, February 1-5, when Bear Creek’s Upper School celebrates Spirit Week. As is traditional during high school spirit weeks, each day has a designated spirit dress theme: Monday: Couch Potato Day Tuesday: Seattle Spirit Day Wednesday: Twin Day Thursday: Pattern Day (each class wears a different pattern, e.g. stripes, plaid, floral, solid) Friday: Blackout with Purple Capes On Friday evening, February 5, Bear Creek will play basketball games at The Overlake School, our league rival. Firls varsity plays at 4:30 p.m.; boys JV plays at 6:00 p.m.; and boys varsity plays at 7:30 p.m. Students will continue the blackout and purple cape dress theme at the game, and Overlake students are being encouraged to participate.
