Healy Consultants: Senegal discovers major gas deposit

Feb. 4, 2016 - PRLog -- The recent discovery of the largest gas field in West Africa, off Saint Louis, northwest of Senegal has been greatly welcomed by the Senegalese President Macky Sall and his Government, as well as investors.

"This significant discovery is the largest reservoir in West Africa, made up of a wide structure on both sides of the border between Senegal and Mauritania," Sall said in a statement. According to Sall, these findings confirm the potential of the sedimentary basin of Senegal and contribute to strengthening the industrial renewal initiated by the Government through the Senegal Emergent Plan which plans economic development through 2035.

The U.S. company Kosmos Energy announced on its website that it had completed drilling offshore Senegal and had found important deep-water gas field in Senegal. The company's drilling confirms the presence of a world class gas resource that extends into both Senegal and Mauritania. The gross estimate for the gas discovery, according to the company, increases the total offshore gas resources on the deep-water site to 17 trillion cubic feet from 14 trillion cubic feet.

As a developing country, Senegal will benefit greatly from the gas fields and become globally competitive as foreign investments will increase in the oil and gas industry and more jobs will be created for the locals thus working towards alleviating poverty. This will assist the country to achieve the economic growth necessary to become a developed country through industrialization.
