Long Beach Senior Squadron 150 Announces Promotion of Michael Wetsman

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Feb. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Long Beach Senior Squadron 150 announces the promotion of Michael Wetsman to the grade of 1st Lieutenant. Wetsman, a commercial pilot for over 20 years, joined CAP in 2013. He is currently a CAP Transport Mission Pilot, Cadet Orientation Pilot and he serves as Squadron 150’s Safety Education Officer.

Wetsman was recently awarded a “Commander’s Commendation Award” by South Coast Group 7 for “Outstanding Duty Performance” as Squadron 150’s Safety Education Officer, and he was named the South Group 7 “Safety Education Officer of the Year.”

“1st Lt. Wetsman has been an invaluable member of Squadron 150 since he joined CAP in 2013. Much of what we do as a unit would not be possible without his time, energy and efforts; and we are very fortunate that he is a part our squadron. This promotion to 1st Lieutenant is very much deserved.” said SM Rommel Anacan, Public Affairs Officer.

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force, which consists of Regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, along with Air Force retired military and civilian employees. CAP, in its Total Force role, operates a fleet of 550 aircraft and performs about 85 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 70 lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s 58,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. Civil Air Patrol received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 in honor of the heroic efforts of its World War II veterans.
