BOCA RATON, Fla. - Feb. 10, 2016 - PRLog -- Professional Organizer and Whole Home Organizing® Expert, Michelle Worthington, who is the founder of Worthy Spaces (http://www.worthyspaces.com), a Boca Raton-based organizational business, and the President of NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) South Florida, will appear in an upcoming episode of A&E’s popular and Prime Time Emmy Nominated series, HOARDERS.Worthington worked behind the scenes with show experts, Mark Pfeffer (therapist) and Standolyn Robertson (Professional Organizer and former NAPO president), a team of local professional organizers, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, and other services to assist a hoarder facing a crisis situation in Florida. The episode will air Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 10:00 pm (EST).

“The experience was truly rewarding,” added Worthington. “It was an honor to be able to work alongside Standolyn Robertson, she truly is an expert in the industry. It was an exhausting few days to say the least but we were also able to have fun. I enjoyed working side by side with some of my NAPO South Florida peers and made new friends with the 1-800-GOT-JUNK crew.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Hoarding is defined as “The excessive collection of items, along with the inability to discard them. Hoarding often creates such cramped living conditions that homes may be filled to capacity, with only narrowpathways winding through stacks of clutter. Some people also collect animals, keeping dozens or hundreds of pets often in unsanitary conditions. People who hoard often don't see it as a problem, making treatment challenging. But intensive treatment can help people who hoard understand their compulsions and live safer, more enjoyable lives.”

Although hoarding is a complex problem, according to the Institute for Challenging Disorganization, “Teaching organizational skills can help to compensate for processing deficits that contribute to hoarding.” Research cited by Dr. Catherine Ayers at UC San Diego, (ocfoundation.org/hoarding) indicates that older adults in particular may actually respond better to being taught specific, concrete, organizing skills.

The aforementioned episode of HOARDERS will air Sunday, February 14 at 10:00 pm on A&E as part two of a back-to-back episode airing. HOARDERS airs on Sunday nights 9PM and 10PM EST.
