Fridge Art Fair Home at Last After Miami Beach Odyssey

Returning to the Lower East Side for Frieze New York Week 2016 at the Historic Landmark Angel Orensanz Foundation

Fridge Art Fair is pleased to announce it is coming home to the neighborhood where it all began,  Manhattan’s Lower East Side, hosted by the landmark destination Angel Orensanz Center (http://www.orensanzevents.com/index.html ) . Catch the new and returning Fridgers May 7-9 at 172 Norfolk Street -- fair programs, hours and satellite locations to be announced...

In what Fridge founder Eric GInsburg describes as “This frozen yogurt experience,” the “Fudge Pop Edition” of the Fair endured first an unexplained shutdown by the City of Miami Beach of a pop-up pre- opening gala hosted by our charity, the LGBT Visitor Center of Miami Beach, followed by their attempted obstruction of the opening of the Fair including threats to arrest all participants which, being scooped by the press (the story has been closely followed by the Miami Herald) before we were able to end the harassment and retract the story, put a chill on opening night attendance.

Topping this off, as most of you know, came three days of Atlantis-evoking rain uncharacteristic for the season, creating floods in large areas of the cities and even inside some art fair venues. Fridge was fortunate in having both indoor and outdoor spaces well above ground, so exhibits were unaffected by rising water. While Fridge escaped a total meltdown and had a successful and spirited Fair given conditions, we wanted to give our exhibitors a much better experience, and are seeking settlements from the offending parties, with the exception of the avenging Weather Gods, with the objective, of course, that all be served their just desserts.

Surviving fair organizers Ginsburg, a Miami artist well known for his “Funky-Fresh”  Dog and Cat paintings (http://www.worldoferic.com) and New York based curator Linda DiGusta (https://www.linkedin.com/in/linda-digusta-2210515)  return to anchor this 7th Edition of Fridge Art Fair, as does our local charity, BARC (www.barcshelter.org).
