JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- Today, NavyCrow.com The Premier Navy Pride apparel and memorabilia company announced that they have completed their latest challenge coin designed to honor the Brown Water Navy River Rats of the Vietnam War,

NavyCrow.com prides themselves on honoring the Men and Women whom have worn the cloth of their nation in defense against enimeis both foregin and domestic. NavyCrow.com created this design at the request of a now retired Senior Chief.

At the young age of 17 when many teenagers are still popping pimples on their faces and worried about their Senior Prom this particular Sailor deployed to Vietnam where he served aboard a Navy River Patrol Boat (PRB). He survived his tour of duty and returned twice more for a surge of adrenaline, upon his return for his 3rd combat tour due to a unique twist of fate he found himself Skipper of his 1st boat.

His story was nothing special, he was an ordinary kid who wanted to serve his country and see the world so he decided to join the Navy. 26 years later he smiles and says that he saw the world in his first 6 months and for the next 25.5 years was trying to figure out how to get out. He was a special man. An amazing Sailor. He was a father, a Sailor and a freedom loving American. He was a River Rat. This coin is for you and all your brothers who served alongside you all those years ago in a land far far away..

At the height of the U.S. Navy’s involvement in the Vietnam War, the Navy’s coastal and riverine forces included more than 30,000 Sailors and over 350 patrol vessels ranging in size from riverboats to destroyers.  For the Navy, Vietnam required the learning of difficult lessons.  It represented the first time since the Civil War that large numbers of Sailors engaged in riverine warfare in small boats more inline with that of the Marines rather than the “Blue Water Navy” that most conjure up in their minds when thinking about the Navy and Sailors in general.

The design features a light brown colored  “River Rat” the same hue that as of the muddy coastal waters of Vietnam. The River Rat is wearing a Beret the trademark headgear of the Riverines as they became know. The right forearm of our River Rat sports the tattoo “Sat Cong” or translated literally as “Kill Cong”  a common vernacular amongst the American forces in Vietnam. He is flanked on the left side by a silhouette of Vietnam colored with the Colors of the National Flag of Vietnam a light mustard yellow and rich maroon.
