La Vie Theaters Rising Star Film Festival (RSfilmfest) was created to provide a premiere destination for talented DFW high school film and media students, to be recognized and rewarded on a grand stage, as their works are showcased to the Dallas community. “We wanted students to know that we hear their voices”, replies Festival Director, Shandell King, when asked why high school students, and the impact such a festival will have on students in the Dallas Fort Worth community. She continues, “Some high school film students shared with us their loss of creative motivation due to a lack of exposure, to celebrate their creative spirits. We’ve decided to answer the call. It is up to us as a community to pay attention to the needs of the next creative generation, or we’ll lose our kids. RSfilmfest provides a platform that encourages our youth, while fostering and mentoring their needs in a positive way. Everyone desires to be celebrated and raising the bar with elite experiences for high school students with this festival, will in turn encourage them to raise the bar on their level of work, while making them socially responsible with the content they put out there. If we ignore our youth today, they will find a way for their voices to be heard tomorrow, and that may not always be the right way”.

The Festival includes well rounded festival directors in film and media, such as AMS Pictures, Murder Made Me Famous Producer/Writer Katie Dunn, President of B’Raja Productions Zohra Hasta, Producer and President of Spirit World Films Lance Paul, Former actress on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Producer/Writer/Composer of Yahweh on Broadway, The Truth Behind the Chords and The Shepherd’s Vineyard Shandell King, and former actor of Transformers III and Business Mogul Michael Robles.

The Festival’s Agenda includes an elaborate Press Brunch, Indoor screenings and panel at the Angelika Film Center Dallas, VIP industry Party (For Sponsors, arts teachers and those in the film industry) at the Alexander Mansion, Academy like Red Carpet Award Ceremony and after Party for the High School Filmmakers. And awards which include distribution deals with Various Artist TV, Final Draft Software, Festival passes to Austin Film Festival, winners film screenings at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, awards and customized Dog Tags made by Tiffany & Co. and a number of other signature prizes. There is also an award presented to the high School of the Best Director whose works supersede over all film categories.

ABOUT LA VIE THEATERS La Vie Theaters is a 501c(3) Dallas based arts organization, known for it’s works in Dallas/Fort Worth and New York City.
