CANCUN, Mexico - Feb. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Krystal International Vacation Club has resorts in three great Mexican locations, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Ixtapa. With so many activities available on the grounds of each resort, vacationers don’t need to venture into town to find things to do. But for those who are itching to explore, here are some fantastic Mexican celebrations to participate in throughout April and May.

Children’s Day – Mexico is always looking for a good reason to celebrate, and on April 30th, the reason is children! The intention of this day is to make children feel special. Festive events take over venues like shopping malls filled with magic, clowns, and balloons. Amusement parks, zoos, and museums often have special discounts for children and water parks are a very popular place on this special day.

Labor Day – The national holiday of Labor Day is celebrated each year on May 1st to promote workers’ rights. The first Labor Day parade was held in Mexico as early as 1913 but the holiday officially began in 1923. For those travelling, keep in mind all banks, schools, and government offices are closed and there will probably be street closures for political and labor union marches. Additionally, many public transportation services may have alternate routes or schedules on this day.

Day of the Holy Cross – Dating back to colonial times, the Day of the Holy Cross is celebrated throughout Mexico on May 3rd each year. Traditionally singing pilgrims would carry streamers and flowers through the town to decorate the crosses along the roads to honor the Holy Cross. In 1960, Pope John XXIII removed the holiday from the Catholic calendar but Mexico chose to keep this tradition. Today construction workers typically decorate crosses and mount them on buildings under construction.

Mother’s Day – Unlike the United States where the date for Mother’s Day changes with each year, the Mexican holiday is always on May 10th. Mothers are highly celebrated in the Mexican culture and on this day, the celebrations are over the top. Schools have festivals in honor of the mothers of their students.

If your travel plans include these celebrations, be sure to venture out and see the Mexican culture firsthand. Krystal International Vacation Club has many options for a great, relaxing vacation. Contact KIVC to make reservations for your next trip today!
