The Coming Technology Singularity

Recent technological innovations are bringing the possibility of dramatic social impact.

SAN FRANCISCO - Feb. 22, 2016 - PRLog -- The pace of technology is accelerating. There is no evidence this acceleration will stop. And like anything that’s accelerating, if it continues we’ll reach a point at which the pace of technological advance is so rapid it becomes effectively infinite. This point has been called the technology singularity.

When you consider the competitive advantage technology gives, the near infinite rate of change of the technology singularity introduces the possibility of a future in which the technology arms race concentrates power and resources to a degree never seen before. Could it put a few into positions of unimaginable power that might never be unseated? If so, there will be nothing stopping those few from becoming unimaginable despots to whom the rest of humanity are merely disposable commodities whose suffering means nothing.

The idea of an individual having virtually infinite power with no consequences for their actions is chilling. A person who if they wanted to buy something could just flip a switch and empty out the world’s bank accounts, then watch with casual detachment as millions fight like animals for food and water. Or who could just happen to wake up one morning to the conclusion that there were several billion people on the earth too many.

The technology singularity, if it exists, sounds a lot like Armageddon.

“The Technology Gravity Well” an upcoming book supported in part by the Nobeah Foundation, delves into these forces, as well as delving into an upcoming new breed of technology that potentially could bring the world there far more quickly than anticipated.  With potential benefits that are nothing short of miraculous, and possible consequences that are an outright Orwellian nightmare, this technology is game changing. Perhaps one of the most important books this year.
