Reliance Entertainment to co-produce ‘La Famille Belier’ with Phantom Films

NEW DELHI - Feb. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Anil Ambani-led Reliance Entertainment will collaborate with Phantom Films to remake well known French film 'La Famille Belier' in multiple Indian languages simultaneously. The story, which will revolve around a girl and her passion to pursue her dreams by singing, is presently in the scripting and pre-production stage.

The original film was released in 2014 to much critical and commercial acclaim. Eric Lartigau helmed the direction whereas Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carre de Marlberg, Lartigau and Thomas Bidegain, shared the writing credits. In a simple tale of emotions, the protagonist of the story, a girl who is born into a family where neither her parents, nor brother can hear or speak, with a gift of singing. The film follows her pursuit of becoming a singer.

Anurag Kashyap, a pretty vocal admirer of French cinema is penning down the script for the remake.

Kashyap said, "'La Famille Belier' is a great story to work on. I really liked the film and feel that with appropriate changes in sensibilities and the tone, it will become a very interesting story for our audiences."

On the other hand, Vikas Bahl is working on developing the subject into different languages.

He said, "'La Famille Belier', at heart, is a story about love and compassion for one's family. We feel it is a beautiful story that will resonate with Indian sensibilities and culture, and we want to develop it in multiple languages, so that we reach out to as big an audience as possible."


Reliance Entertainment will take the responsibility of global distribution.

A conflict laden drama, ‘La Famille Belier,’ hits the peak of emotions when the girl’s family, which has no one else to help them stay in touch with the world outside, aren’t too enthusiastic about her dreams. The girl is caught in the dilemma to choose between her family and her one true passion and dream.

'La Famille Belier' won Cesar Awards 2015 in the category of Most Promising Actress (Louane Emera), besides getting nominated for Best Film, Best Actress (Karin Viard), Best Actor (Francois Damiens) and Best Supporting Actor (Eric Elmosnino). Other than nominations in the European Film Awards and Globes de Cristal Awards, it also received the Best Actress and Most Promising Young Actress in Lumiere Awards in 2015.

The original French film is produced by Jerico and Mars Films along with other co-producers.
