There’s a New Way to Publish Books

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Feb. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Those who’ve published traditionally and on their own know the frustrations of each. 918studio press looks to offer the best of both the traditional and self-publishing worlds with its new “selective subsidized publishing” business model. The company is accepting submissions through March 31, 2016, of poetry chapbooks and prose works (non-fiction or fiction, short story collections or novels) with strong geographic ties for publication in 2016 and 2017. Detailed submission guidelines are available online at http://918studiopress.com/submission-guidelines/.

“Selective Subsidized Publishing” is a brand new publishing business model 918studio press is bringing to the Quad Cities. Subsidized publishing means that authors help to pay for publishing, though at a much lower rate than with large self-publishing companies. Most small traditional publishers recoup their investments by charging high book prices and providing small royalties to authors. By having authors help with expenses up front, book prices are lower, thereby making them more attractive to readers. Authors also receive a much high royalty than with small traditional publishers. The selective part means that 918studio press publishes a small percentage of submitted titles, like traditional publishers, but unlike other self-publishing companies.

Authors who publish with 918studio press will pay a flat rate that includes everything; other than to purchase additional author book copies at a substantially discounted rate, 918studio press will not ask for additional fees. 918studio press looks to partner completely with authors in their books’ journeys, supporting them in the future (even their non-918 titles) as much as possible.

918studio press was formed after Robin Throne, recently named Gambling the Aisle’s 2015 chapbook contest winner, transferred 918studio to Lori Perkins’ Absolute Publishing Services and Perkins partnered with Jodie Toohey of Wordsy Woman Author Services. “Jodie and I complement each other in our skills and areas of expertise. It was a logical partnership,” Perkins said. “I’m grateful to Lori for inviting me to join in this venture,” Toohey said. “As a 918studio author, I’m excited to continue the reputation of high quality writing that Robin Throne established.”
