Bay Area Youth Create Song, Video Inspired by Desmond Tutu Peace3 Initiative

Feb. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- The Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation (DTPF) (http://www.tutufoundationusa.org/) is thrilled to announce the release of the song and music video “Peace3”, which is the result of a collaboration between the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation and Bay Area youth non-profit NegusWorld (http://www.negusworld.org/). The song is the first in a series of collaborations between the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation and youth organizations across the United States in support of their #Peace3 initiative.

The mission of #Peace3 is to be a catalyst for global peace by creating a world in which everyone values human dignity and embraces our essential interconnectedness – using Desmond Tutu’s life and teachings to inspire young people to build a world of peace within, peace between people and peace among nations. The project also aims to inspire one million young adults, aged 17-22, to learn and engage in peacebuilding as their life’s work.

“We launched the #Peace3 program with the idea to inspire young people to take action. The youth of NegusWorld came to us inspired by the idea of peace within, peace between and peace among and asked us if they could write a song about it,” said Brian Rusch, Executive Director of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation. “They perfectly captured the essence of the program while simultaneously creating an anthem of peace for their generation.”

“Peace3” was written by Johwell St-Cilien and written and performed by youth artists Stoney Creation (Peace Within), Jada Imani (Peace Between) and Maleik Dion (Peace Among), and produced by Edson Sean.

“When writing lyrics for this song, I was inspired to actually bring peace to myself! This experience made me realize how important peace is internally, externally and how much we should appreciate tranquility. Peace is needed to reach the highest state of being.” said 16 year old Stoney Creation, a co-writer of the song. Her friend and collaborator 16 year old Jada Imani added, “The Peace3 program speaks to me because it is solution-oriented. It shows how peace is multi-dimensional, but not elusive because it starts with us.”

At 22, Maleik Dion is the oldest member of the group.“I was honored to represent the Peace3 campaign for the legendary Desmond Tutu… when I came to understand the campaigns focus on inner peace, for interpersonal peace, and transnational unity there was no way I could turn down the opportunity. I studied history at the University of California and hope to imbue that perspective in my music. I believe through having a historical perspective and understanding we can create solutions to the social justice issues we face in the modern day.”
