Controversial reforms in Algeria divide in half investors opinions

Feb. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- At the beginning of February, the Algerian parliament began discussion on changes in the country’s constitution that aim to significantly strengthen democracy and modernize the ruling power, but many foreign investors believe this is simply “window dressing”.

The local government is ruling for more than a decade when the current leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika became president in 1999. For a country of 40 million, representing a key energy producer in Northern Africa, the stability of the political power is of key essence of preserving peace and retaining foreign investments. Ahmed Ouyahia, the chief of staff of the ruling party confirms, these reforms will "strengthen freedoms and enshrine the separation of powers and the principles and values of the Algerian people,"

However, may foreign investors share the opinion of The Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) which believes the reforms are "nothing more than the continuation of the tradition of constitutional violence against the Algerian people".
