OHM Advisors Wins Two ACEC/Michigan Honorable Conceptor Awards

Architecture, engineering, planning firm OHM Advisors announces ACEC/Michigan wins for two prominent Oakland County, Michigan projects.

LIVONIA, Mich. - March 3, 2016 - PRLog -- OHM Advisors, headquartered in Livonia, MI, announced that its work on two prominent Oakland County transportation projects has been recognized with the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/M) second-highest honor, the Honorable Conceptor Award for engineering excellence. The awards were presented during the recent ACEC/M Awards Gala in Battle Creek.

OHM Advisors received one Honorable Conceptor award for its work on the Northwestern Connector Triangle Project, alongside client Road Commission of Oakland County, as part of a $40M solution to a long-standing regional traffic bottleneck. This three-phase project, started in the mid-2000s and completed in November, 2015, resulted in lane widening, reconstructed interchanges, traffic reconfiguration, and several roundabouts – including the latest at Orchard Lake and 14 Mile roads.

The firm’s second award recognized its involvement with long-standing City of Auburn Hills client to bring the first Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) to Michigan. OHM Advisors performed a preliminary engineering study that identified the DDI as an innovative solution to the I-75 / University Drive interchange that is not only more cost-effective, but reduces travel time, fuel consumption, crash occurrences and environmental impacts. The DDI, with a defining feature of crossing drivers to the left through the interchange and then back to the right, opened in Auburn Hills to the public in November.

Of the diverging diamond interchange, Auburn Hills City Manager Tom Tanghe stated “Moving traffic safely and efficiently is one of the hallmarks of a great community. This project is perhaps the pinnacle of innovation and collaboration. The innovative interchange will greatly benefit our residents and thriving business community comprised of world-class companies.”
