Making its first appearance at the show is Tiny Heavenly Homes (http://www.TinyHeavenlyHomes.com) “Tiny homes are used as a hobby area, man cave, art studio, game room and even a place to park motorcycles. Anything that’s in the house or garage that you would rather have in a space in your yard can usually fit in a tiny home,” explains Blair. The tiny home can be placed on a trailer and used as an RV or second home. They are also popular as a private space for aging parents or kids who are home from college. Many are self-contained with an incinerator toilet and are solar or generator-powered. As long as the size of the structures is less than 120 square feet, a building permit is not required. The price of tiny homes, says Blair, is comparable to many sheds on the market. “Everything is made of pine and spruce. No pressed wood, plywood or chemicals are used in the construction or assembly so there are no toxic odors,” says Blair. “They are built much like a log cabin so they are naturally insulated.” Another innovation at the show is the new LifeRoom by Home Star (www.homestarcompanies.com). These just-introduced outdoor rooms feature motorized acrylic fabric screens that raise and lower so the rooms can be open as a patio or fully enclosed. When the screens are lowered, they keep out 95 percent of UV rays, as well as pollen, wind and insects. In summer, climate technology cools down the space by as much as 40 degrees and in winter, radiant heaters warm things up. Each room is custom designed and can include glazed skylights, a cooling mister, LED lighting and a projector system and surround sound. These and other unique home ideas will be on display at the show. Home show hours are Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Gourmet food trucks will be serving food on Saturday, April 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The entry fee at the door is $4 per person.
