Wondering Where the Lions Are

When the soft, heartbeat thunder
drifted into silence my rapture
in the divine bubble ended.
Leaving the cave of love, I
chased that hypnotic sound, but
a worldly web wrapped me
in an unconscious coma.
Wounded by thorns of fear, I hid
until my numbness felt like comfort.
Sleepwalking through this jungle
in a new suit of skin, I wandered
lost on the Serengeti, in wild places,
gathering a herd of dead dreams to tend.
My safari crept through a desert
on the dead side of love, often in circles,
along old, rusty chain link reasons, but
every step into thirst quenching
addictions pulled me deeper
into a hellish hunger.
Suffering and blaming
helped me ignore any pesky
whispers from an unseen God.
By not opening my eyes I
held the trance in place, and
buried myself in dark, sleepy fears
to hide from the winds of change.
