Dog Teaches Kids to Earn, Save MoneyNew Book Uses Canine Characters to Introduce Financial Literacy to Young Children
The new full-color children's book Boxcar Indy Goes to Doggy World uses fun canine characters to teach basic financial concepts like earning, saving, deferred gratification, and decision-making. "Many schools don't have the time and resources to emphasize the teaching of financial literacy skills and our kids grow up lacking the foundation that enables them to build a future free of debt and worry," says author Tracey C. Jones. "We hope to introduce some of these ideas and help children build a solid understanding of simple financial concepts." The new book uses a novel approach to get the message across. "A dog named Boxcar Indy wants to take a trip to Doggy World amusement park," Tracey continues. "To take that trip he has to earn $1,000. In 32 illustrated east-to-read pages Indy learns how to set a goal, how to earn and save money, and even how to resist the temptation to buy silly toys that don't match his goal." Ms. Jones and the real Boxcar Indy, a four-year-old Corgi-Australian Shepherd mix, regularly bring their message to schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations. "We like to get out with the kids and read the book in person," says Tracey. "They love meeting the real Indy. He sits by my side and we read the book together. It's a blast, the kids love it, and they come away with important knowledge that will help put them on the path to success." The real Boxcar Indy simply says Woof. Boxcar Indy Goes to Doggy World, published April 2016, is the sequel to 2014's Boxcar Indy: A Square Dog in a Round World. Learn more at www.4LeggedLeadership.com. ABOUT TRACEY C.
