The American Conference on Diversity Welcomes Two New Board of Trustees Members

 
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. - April 12, 2016 - PRLog -- The American Conference on Diversity is proud to announce the appointment of two new Board of Trustees members - Tim Giordano (right) and Tabiri M. Chukunta - who will play a pivotal role in helping the organization build just and inclusive schools, workplaces, and communities through awareness, education, and advocacy. They will serve as ambassadors to expand the reach and scope of our mission for social justice. Now more than ever, there's an urgent need to focus attention on human relations and its impact on NJ communities and all of society.

Tim Giordano, Esq. - Manager of Jumpstart, Montclair State University Mr. Giordano is a leading legal, business, and education executive with diverse experience across all sectors. As Manager of the Jumpstart early education program, he collaborates with college students, community members, and school-based program partners, to help pre-K youth in Newark develop essential language and literacy skills. As principal of Next Impact Ventures, Mr. Giordano invests time and capital into companies and social projects that seek to advance justice or improve the lives of young people. These efforts have included an award-winning, independent documentary about bullying in schools, and a successful anti-censorship campaign for the high school theater community.

In 2014, he was Manager of Business Operations at Success Academy Charter Schools where he oversaw all non-instructional operations and staff in Harlem North Central. Prior to that, Mr. Giordano served as legal analyst and then regional director for one of Bloomberg LP's four main businesses, responsible for performance and client relations across the tri-state region. He also led the securities law division, managing experts and covering broker-dealer regulation, structured finance, hedge funds, commodities and derivatives, investment companies and advisers, and related products. Earlier in his career, Mr. Giordano was a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, focusing on complex business disputes and advising leading financial institutions and public companies. He began his career at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, where he clerked for the Honorable Frank M. Hull and counseled on a wide range of appellate matters, including high-profile death penalty and asylum cases.

Mr. Giordano earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Florida State University and a law degree from Emory University, graduating 1st in his class. During his tenure there, he worked with Atlanta Legal Aid, assisting low-income litigants, and Georgia Legal Services, advocating for migrant farmworkers. His volunteer and research efforts focus on improving education and life outcomes for foster care as well as LGBT youth.

Tabiri M. Chukunta - Director of Community Outreach and Diversity, Saint Peter's Healthcare System As a healthcare administrator, an ordained minister of the Gospel, and instructor of Theology, Reverend Chukunta studies the special needs of ethnic and religious groups and facilitates Saint Peter's health intervention programs. This includes developing educational programs with faith and cultural leaders; educating hospital care providers in culturally sensitive and religious issues pertaining to patient care; facilitating cultural competence and education in equity in care; and leading the healthcare system's Unity-in-Diversity programs to educate employees, physicians, and volunteers in cultural and religious differences and observances.

Rev. Chukunta is also a Fire Chaplain for the City of New Brunswick, a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor credentialed by Mental Health Division/Anti-Terrorism, and a Disaster Crisis Chaplain for the State of NJ. As an ecumenical minster he serves as associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr. Rev. Chukunta also supports the Anglican Communion of Nigeria as an ordained Deacon. With a strong background in diversity and inclusion, human relations, and interfaith and ecumenical ministry, Rev. Chukunta strives to serve humanity by serving God through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Rev. Chukunta earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Rutgers University, a Master of Arts in communications from Montclair State University, a Master of Divinity from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry in pastoral care and counseling from Drew University Theological School.
