Playford Games Launches ILIOS Board Game on Kickstarter

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - April 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Playford Game, publisher of Cartography and game designer Eliot Hochberg are seeking funding for their new game, ILIOS on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.   ILIOS - the Battles of Troy, is an abstract strategy game in the style of classics mind games like Go and Reversi.  Set in the world of the Iliad by Homer, players take the roles of Greek and Trojan warriors as they raid, surround and plunder to take control of lands around the city of Troy, known as ILIOS in Greek.

"ILIOS is the culmination of my love affair with classic abstract games," said Eliot Hochberg, "but I wanted to create something with a modern sensibility. So I set out to design a sociable game that is accessible for players of all skill levels, and that could accommodate more than two players. ILIOS is the fruit of 5-year long labor of love."

The ILIOS Kickstarter campaign features the game at $40 including free shipping to individuals in the US, Canada and the European Union.  Premium and Deluxe editions, with game pieces made of printed wood, are available at $70 and $125 respectively.  The company is seeking $18,000 in funding.

About the game:

In ILIOS: The Battles of Troy, a warrior's value and strength are represented by the number and direction of spears on a square tile.  Players take turns to place a warrior tiles on a 6 x 6 board.  One of the warrior's spears must point at another warrior tile already claimed by an opponent.  Claims on the tiles change hands throughout the game until a tile is surrounded, it is then removed from the board, and added to the plunder of the player who last laid claim to it.  A move to surround one tile may lead to scoring by an opponent, as other tiles can be surrounded at the same time. This calls for a blend of offensive and defensive strategy choices that are compounded by the uncertainty introduced by random drawing of a hand of three tiles.

The 4-step rules for ILIOS can be learned in less than a minute. Players can adjust the length of play by choosing the size of the grid as marked on the board.  Each game is different, because players take turns placing starting "Iron Weapons" tiles on the board in any position they like.

ILIOS is now available for pledging on Kickstarter, with a target delivery date of November, 2016.
