Follow on Google News | Legendary Rock Band "Captain Beyond" is Touring AgainThe 1970s Group Announces its Re-Formation and New Concert Tours
The original group's co-founder Bobby Caldwell said the band, which has recently re-formed, is now performing again in response to numerous requests from international die-hard fans. "We wanted to reconnect with all those who remember our music, and make new fans along the way," he said. Besides Caldwell on the drums and vocals, the lineup includes bassist Jeff "The Count" Artabasy, guitarist and keyboardist Simon Lind, guitarist Marc Bonilla, as well as guitarist and singer Don Bonzi. Shortly after the band rocked onto the music scene, it launched its self-named album, Captain Beyond, followed by studio and live releases such as "Sufficiently Breathless" and "Far Beyond a Distant Sun" (1973), "Dawn Explosion" (1977), and others. The group, originally created by members of Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly, and Johnny Winter's band, won critical acclaim after it performed at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival and toured with the likes of Alice Cooper, The Allman Brothers, Black Sabbath, and other performers. "Captain Beyond forged a new sound that no other band of the time or since has been able to produce," said David Jerden, producer for Rolling Stones, Alice In Chains, Herbie Hancock, Jane's Addiction, and Anthrax. The band's music and style have influenced newer rock groups like Foo Fighters, as well as Scandinavian bands, including Witchcraft, Abramis Brama, and The Quill. Caldwell said that while touring, the group will perform its old hits, along with new songs. The band will also be releasing a Captain Beyond "Box Set," re-mastered with some bonus tracks. Charles Carlini, whose New York-based company, In Touch Entertainment, is organizing the tour, said he is "honored and thrilled" about Captain Beyond re-forming and performing again. "They have been my musical heroes since I first heard them play," he said. For more information, visit http://intouchent.com. End
