Prior to joining Arete Partners, Richard Gates, a native of Australia, worked for Michael Page Finance, and then as a Senior Consultant for Sharp & Carter at its Melbourne, Australia, offices. There he placed hundreds of finance professionals in a broad range of roles in clients across multiple industries. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from Monash University. He loves travelling the world and is an avid sports fan. Gates and his partner relocated to San Francisco from Melbourne.

Michael Ruskin, originally from New York,was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Iron Consulting & Staffing, LLC, prior to joining Arete Partners. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park. He now lives in San Francisco and will be key to Arete's ability to deliver exceptional teams to their clients' leadership. Ruskin is a supporter of the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Prior to joining Arete Partners, Heidi Effenberger worked as a Development Assistant for Harvard University in its West Coast office. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in both International Studies and Art History from the University of California at San Diego, and a Master of Arts in the History of Art & Architecture from Boston University. She lives in San Francisco, and her research skills honed while working at Harvard provide further confidence for Arete's clients that they will find the best candidate in the market for the position. Effenberger also teaches fitness and active wellness classes.
