SAN ANTONIO - May 12, 2016 - PRLog -- Today, NavyCrow.com The Premier Navy Pride apparel and memorabilia company announced that they have completed their latest challenge coin designed to honor the US Navy Hosptial Corpsmen of the Fleet Marine Force .

The US Navy Hospital Corps officially dates back to 17 June 1898 when President WIlliam McKinley signed into law a bill calling for the establishment of a formally trained enlisted medical professional within the US Navy.  Hospital Corpsmen since 2011 have attended training at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where they are integrated with the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps attending school at the Medical Education and Training Campus.

Hospital Corpsmen are a unique breed amongst Sailors, known for their pride, their courage and adaptability however the Corpsmen whom who are called "Devil Doc", the Corpsmen who serve in the Fleet Marine Force (FMF)  are an entire breed amongst themselves!  Hospital Corpsmen upon receipt of orders to a FMF Unit are sent for additional training at Field Medical Training Battalion where they learn basic Marine Corps Infantry skills, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and continue to hone their physical and mental physique with field training evolutions and forced marches.

When this newly minted Corpsmen checks into his new assignment he is often berated by the Marines, and receives a good deal of harassment. That is until he can prove himself capable of taking their sh**, and knowledgeable in his medical skills.  Once he had proven himself he is called "Doc" by the Marines, his rank rarely if ever used for he is simple DOC. The title "Doc" is one earned with sweat, blood, and tears in recognition of all the Hospital Corpsmen who have gone before him. On the battlefield when a Marine is wounded he cries out for his Doc, he knows that no doctor, no nurse, no ambulance is coming for him, but he knows that this sole Navy Corpsmen will risk his own life to save the Marine.

A Navy Corpsmen embedded with an Infantry unit knows the same harsh living conditions, and sacrifices of the Grunts; he must carry all the same gear that a Marine does into combat including an M4 rifle on top of this he must also carry his medical supplies. When the Marine patrol pauses to rest, the Corpsmen must attend to his Marines ensuring they change their socks and are hydrating. A true FMF Corpsmen is distinguishable in ranks only by his long hair, out of regs mustache and smirk on his face. For he knows that he is the biggest, baddest, MOFO in the valley, for he is a Devil Doc!

The design features the traditional symbol of the medical department the Caduceus representative of the HM Rating Badge with a skull symbolic of the main mission of Navy Corpsmen fighting death. Behind the caduceus we find crossed syringes, reminding us of the Morphine carried into battle. The Geneva Red Cross was the original rating if the Hospital Corpsmen prior to 1948 when it was changed to the present day caduceus.
