PORTLAND, Ore. - May 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Alpenrose Dairy, Oregon's oldest family-owned dairy, is celebrating the beginning of summer and their centennial year with the opening of Dairyville Sunday, June 5th.

The Dairyville tradition was started by Carl Cadonau Sr. in 1956 and was originally called Fun Day Sunday! It was open Sundays, after church, as a way for the community to connect with each other and for families to spend quality time together. Adults and children enjoyed activities like: pony rides, frog jumping, kite racing, kite flying, pie eating and cow milking contests. In addition, one of the most favorite activities was the grease pole contest, where kids would try to climb to the top of a pole completely covered in bacon fat. Successful climbers were rewarded with a silver dollar.

Since then, kids and adults continue to flock to the streets of Dairyville to explore the fun pioneer exhibit. They can peak into the Confectionery, the Great Western Bank, the Dairyville School, and the post office. Kids love to watch the model trains chug through tiny Oregon landscapes while learning interesting facts from train club experts. And no Dairyville visit would be complete without stopping off at the Ice Cream Parlor for a scoop of delicious Alpenrose ice cream.

Dairyville is free to the public.  It will be open every Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00PM beginning June 5th and running through August 28th. Bring the family and mosey on down to Dairyville at Alpenrose Dairy, located at 6149 SW Shattuck Road, off Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.
