Expansion underway (again) at Amagansett Sea Salt

Additional salt evaporating pans to increase production by 30%
 
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. - May 19, 2016 - PRLog -- Hamptons culinary salt maker Amagansett Sea Salt Co. announced today that construction of another expansion of their saltworks in Amagansett, New York is underway. This latest expansion will add twelve salterns - salt evaporating pans - to their salt making operation and is expected to increase production by 30% over last year's level. Construction is expected to be complete and the new salterns evaporating seawater into salt by June 1st.

"We've significantly increased salt production every year since opening for business. Last year, we designed and built a dozen new salterns. To keep up with demand, we're now putting another twelve salt pans in place," said Steven Judelson, the Company's saltmaker. With the new salt pans, the Company expects to produce and sell nearly 4 tons of culinary salt in 2016.

Amagansett Sea Salt is hand cultivated, solar evaporated salt made from Atlantic Ocean seawater. Seawater is collected from the ocean in Amagansett, near the tip of Long Island in the Hamptons area of NY, and tended at the Company's Amagansett saltworks. Salt crystals form in the salterns as the water slowly evaporates. "Over the thirty years we have been making salt, we've experimented with almost every imaginable method. We learned that planting seawater in shallow pans and letting the sun and the wind do its magic is the most time consuming and difficult method, but makes the best salt. Amagansett Sea Salt is solar evaporated outdoors in the traditional manner using only the sun and the wind. Although laborious and unpredictable, the salt is definitely worth it." The Company rejects boiling seawater, heating water in ovens or kilns or evaporating it in greenhouses. "The seawater lives in the salt pans for three weeks to three months before being harvested. The interplay of our clean water, with Amagansett's pure air, in our unconventional salt making climate makes our salt so wonderful and sought after."

The Company directly distributes its products to restaurants, artisanal food makers, retailers and consumers. Regular clients include Michelin starred and top rated restaurants throughout the Hamptons, the NYC metro area and the US.
