Mount Sophomore Awarded Telluride Scholarship

BRONX, N.Y. - May 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Ryan Barnes '18, has been awarded a full scholarship to the 2016 Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar, "In Search of Identity: Performance of Blackness and Representations of Gender and Sexuality" at the University of Michigan.

Admission to TASS is highly selective, students are nominated by teachers and guidance counselors. The process includes a rigorous essay application and an academic recommendation. Ryan is one of 56 'intellectually curious high school sophomores' awarded a full scholarship to the 2016 Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar (TASS). This summer, Ryan will participate in a challenging six-week long college-level program on topics related to Critical Black and Ethnic Studies.

Barnes said "My goal is to use my passion for my culture and equality views to learn as much as possible and bring that to others so that they too can be proud to be who they are and use it to change society for the better."

Telluride Association is an independent not-for-profit educational organization that has offered Summer Programs to rising high school juniors of exceptional promise since 1954. The program "works with university faculty to create exciting courses designed to inspire young people to explore the histories, politics and cultural experiences of people of African descent and a variety of other topics."
