San Francisco Black Film Festival Year XVIII Gets Underway June 16 at San Francisco State School of Cinema's August Coppola Theater

Co -Directors Kali O'ray and Katera Crossley Host Emerging Artists from Around the World, June 16-19, with Thought Provoking Projects, Panels and Parties Over Juneteenth and Father's Day Weekend.

San Francisco- The San Francisco Black Film Festival kicks off with the double pleasure of screening an international film, "Lambadina" by Messay Getahun from Ethiopia, perfectly positioned at the state of the art San Francisco State School of Cinema's August Coppola Theater, opening night, Thursday June 16th at 6:00 p.m.

Love can be pretty complicated and when you cross from one continent to another in search of unrequited love, there can be more than just language and cultural barriers, as seen in the San Francisco Black Film Festival's opening film, "Lambadina."

Displaying a glimpse of Ethiopia and its diaspora, "Lambadina" is a great film to be screened at San Francisco State's School of Cinema's August Coppola Theater," said Kali O'Ray, Co-Director of the San Francisco Black Film Festival.   "We have a perfect seat in various venues for everyone to see films that engage people into thought-provoking dialogue and hopefully change. "I'd like to thank Dr. Britta Sjogren, Director of the School of Cinema, for having the vision to partner with SFBFF."

"The School of Cinema is pleased to collaborate with the San Francisco Black Film Festival, said Dr. Britta Sjogren, San Francisco State School of Cinema Director.  "Since the organization's inception, it has focused on helping emerging artists pave a path in the arts and entertainment industry and it aligns with our mission to help students have successful careers.

Opening Night with a reception hosting director, producer and writer of the "Lambadina" "Messay Getahun and members of the cast, begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the 7:00 p.m.  Screening of the film.  Invited guests (still to be confirmed) include San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and San Francisco State alums: Danny Glover and his fellow 1968 SF State student strike activist Ramona Tascoe, MD, Shabaka Henley and other special guests.
