Industrial Caster Leader Offers a Wheel Re-poly Service

ALBION, Mich. - June 7, 2016 - PRLog -- Caster wheels that have been lined with polyurethane tires can wear down after a while, especially when used in heavy industrial environments. Over time, this will cause them to fail, which can in turn result in accidents occurring in the workplace. However, this doesn't mean that wheels always need to be replaced at the first signs of wear - it may sometimes be possible to re-mold a replacement tire on to an existing wheel core instead.

Causes of Caster Wheel Breakdown

Using casters at high speeds, loading them too heavily on a regular basis and using them on excessively long runs can cause an excessive build-up of heat on the wheels. Over time, this heat breaks down the polyurethane compound, which will cause the wheels to malfunction or even break down completely. When this happens, workers are not only inconvenienced; a caster wheel that suddenly seizes or breaks can result in serious injuries being caused as well.

Even when caster wheels are used well within the limits of the original compound, most of them will wear to the point where replacement becomes inevitable. While replacing damaged and worn wheels is certainly an option here as well, there are a few reasons why companies should consider re-molding the original core on existing caster wheel products instead, which are listed below:

·         Lead times to get equipment back up and running again can be minimized

·         It can help promote 'green' recycling programs

·         If the wheel cores have initially been custom made for any reason, it could save a substantial amount of money

·         Quality will be equivalent to that of original equipment manufacturer (OEM)

·         A change in the makeup of tires will help improve application significantly

·         Caster Concepts is able to rework damaged or worn wheels with a high performance grade of polyurethane at a cost which is far less than the cost of replacing entire units

How the Re-poly Service Works

Cater wheels are completely stripped of their existing polyurethane during a burning process that reaches 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the cores have cooled down, they are blasted in order to fully recover the wheel core, and the bores are thoroughly inspected at this time to ensure that they still meet the original dimensions. The reconditioned cores are then prepared to have the new tires applied to them, and these are put on in the same manner as the original tires would have been applied. After the new tires have been applied and post-cured, new wheel bearings are installed and the wheels are then ready to be returned to the client.

The polyurethane tire material has been specifically engineered to provide maximum cut and tear strength, and the grade of polyurethane used here at caster Concepts is UV stable and solvent-resistant as well.
