By: Valeo The company is further advancing its range of IAMs in anticipation of the U.S. Department of Transportation Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) expected later in June. This NPRM will seek to mandate light vehicle V2V communication using the reserved 5.9GHz spectrum allocated by the FCC. Based on peiker's 2015 series production development, the IAM is installed under the vehicle roof and directly couples to the shark fin antenna, offering clear advantages for automotive OEMs. The direct connection to the antenna eliminates assembly work and costs involved in installing coaxial cables. It also reduces reception losses which are especially critical at the 5.9GHz V2V frequency. Amphenol SAA is providing advanced Shark-fin antennas incorporating a peiker-developed 5.9GHz V2V transceiver sub-system. The shark fin antenna also contains satellite and 4G LTE cellular antennas. At the heart of the V2V system is the Communication Software Stack provided to peiker by Commsignia. The stack runs on the central processor of the peiker IAM and provides the IAM the ability to become aware of the movements of surrounding vehicles that also incorporate the standardized safety technology. Commsignia Safety Applications built on top of the communication stack provide collision avoidance capability.
