Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic Returns to Baytowne Marina

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - June 14, 2016 - PRLog -- The 14^th Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic will be held at the Baytowne Marina Wednesday through Sunday, June 22^nd through the 26^th. These dates mark the peak of the Gulf Coast's blue marlin season. The ECBC is a "modified-release" tournament that has led the Gulf Coast tournament circuit in setting high minimum lengths for blue marlin. Blue marlin is the only billfish that may be weighed. Release points are awarded for blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish and spearfish.

The ECBC takes place each year in June which is the peak of the Gulf Coast's blue marlin season. Beginning in 2003, the tournament has grown over 80% in participation and 350% in cash awards. Holding the record for the biggest cash payout in the Gulf at over 1.6 million, the tournament continues to see growth each year.

Anglers can register their boat and team online. A list of rules and regulations can be seen as well as an itinerary for the event. So far 68 teams are entered in the event. Registration will remain open until the end of the day on Wednesday, June 22^nd. Teams are encouraged to bring their families to the event to join in the many activities planned.

Anglers can compete in waters that have produced blue marlin weighing over 1,000 pounds. State records for blue marlin, bluefin and yellowfin tuna have been broken. Cash is awarded to the three heaviest weighed blue marlin, dolphin, tuna and wahoo. Additional categories will be awarded cash prizes at the end of the event as well as the winning team's name engraved on the Blue Perpetual Trophy.

Champagne dock walks, live music, kid's activities and fireworks are among the events planned for the fishermen's families. Nightly weigh-ins will take place on Friday, June 24^th from 4:00 to 9:00pm and Saturday, June 25^th from 4:00-10:00pm. An awards brunch will take place on Sunday, June 26^th from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
