Short Fiction Renaissance: Readers Love Short Stories and Novellas

Short stories are popular today. Self-publishers can cater to the tiniest niches of readers, but the new markets for short fiction aren't small. Authors are using short stories and novellas as marketing tools, and they're selling their stories too.

SYDNEY - June 15, 2016 - PRLog -- Copywriter, author and blogger Angela Booth manages several blogs for writers. She says that for many years, she told writers that: "There's no money in short stories." The heyday of short fiction ended decades ago.

Amazon's release of the Kindle however, and growth of the self-publishing movement, has produced a renaissance in short fiction. Angela says that her students have been telling her that not only are their short story collections selling well, individual stories in some genres are selling too.

Readers love short stories and novellas because they're busy, and they can finish an "ebook" quickly. Authors love them because short ebooks make great promotional tools. Authors can offer their short stories for free, or close to free, and readers can try new authors who are unfamiliar to them.

Angela's just released a new guide: "Short Fiction Secrets: How To Write And Sell Short Stories" for authors who want to get started writing and publishing short stories and novellas.

In the book, she suggests that short stories offer a way for authors to market and promote their novels painlessly.

Angela's students have found short stories valuable in other ways too: they can try out genres new to them quickly. One student enjoyed reading a popular fiction genre, but hesitated to try writing in that genre. She felt that her loyal readers wouldn't respond. However, when she wrote a short story in the genre it sold quickly, and so did her first novel in the genre when she went on to write and publish it.

She says: "I love using short stories for promotion. I find out much more about what readers enjoy, and I'm growing my readership."

"Short Fiction Secrets: How To Write And Sell Short Stories" covers the elements of short fiction, writing short fiction and publishing it, and much more. It's available now.
