The DeLorenzo Law Firm to Represent Man Injured By Exploding Vaporizer

Schenectady Personal Injury Firm The DeLorenzo Law Firm Will Represent a Man Who Was Injured When His Electronic Smoking Device Exploded, Ripping a Hole in His Tongue.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - June 17, 2016 - PRLog -- The Delorenzo Law Firm, a personal injury firm operating out of Schenectady, New York, will represent Kenneth Barbero, an Albany man who was left seriously injured when his electronic smoking device exploded in his mouth, knocking out his teeth, ripping a sizeable hole in his tongue, and leaving his hands severely burned. Barbero was home alone at the time of the incident and feared he was going to burn alive.

"[It was] like an M80 bomb went off in my mouth," Barbero said of the explosion. "When I hit the button, I saw a huge yellow light. The next thing I know, I'm on the floor and my arms are paralyzed." Barbero was hospitalized following the incident.

Barbero's mother suspects the explosion was a result of a malfunction of the vaporizer's lithium ion battery. "The battery had exploded inside and everything shot out… went into his mouth and burned everything," she commented.

Electronic cigarettes and vaporizers have become popular with Millenials as an alternative to cigarettes, with some claiming that vaping does not have the same health effects as traditional smoking. Barbero hopes his story will dissuade others from vaping in the future, and plans to quit vaping in the wake of the incident. "When it blows up in your face, you're not having a good time," he said.

Barbero's story is just one of several instances of e-cigarette explosions, following an incident in May when an Alabama teen was severely burned after a classmate's e-cigarette suddenly blew up, sending a burning hot battery into his face. Earlier in February 2016, a Kentucky man's leg was engulfed in flames at a local gas station when his smoking device exploded in his pocket.

Despite the increasing frequency of these occurrences, the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association (TVECA) has stood by claims that explosions of this type are both rare and preventable. According to the TVECA, batteries that are paired with mismatched chargers have a higher risk of combusting during use.
