PRLog -- Manipal Hospitals Vijayawada in association with Jeevandan foundation, in a bid to spread awareness on Organ donation organized a one day seminar today. The objective of this seminar apart from promoting the noble cause of organ donation was also to train and educate the ICU doctors, Intensivists, Anesthetists and Transplant Coordinators. The seminar was flagged off by Chief Guest, Dr Ravi Raju- Chairman -Jeevandan Foundation &Vice Chancellor, NTR University and Dr Krishna Murthy-Chief Transplant Coordinator - Jeevandan. Other dignitaries present at the occasion were Dr. Olithselvan Chairman - Division of Liver transplant and consultant Hepatologist , Dr Vijayanand - Intensivist, Dr Sunil Karanth - Intensivist and Dr Sridhar, Nephrologist & Renal transplant Physician . The seminar witnessed various speakers from different walks of life to impart education of all the aspects of organ donation. The key highlights discussed in the seminar was Transplantation of human organs act-Jeevandan perspective, Deceased organ donation in India, Role of intensivists in organ donation, Ethics of organ donation, Donor optimization, Role of transplant coordinator in organ donation, Brain death testing- Myths, Mimics and Challenges, Suitability of kidney donation, Suitability for Liver donation and Counselling techniques. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dr. T. Ravi Raju, Chairman, Jeevandan Foundation said, "Organ donation is a noble cause and people are slowly coming forward to donate organs. Though the concept is very popular in the west but we have a long way to go. Thus clarifying myths and change of mindset through educating people on organ donation is the key to take this on a large scale."At the seminar, there was also a debate on need to promote organ donation in South India. A panel discussion was also organized to get better perspective on the need and implementation of organ donation. Speaking on the occasion Mr.G Karthihaivelan Unit Head - Manipal Hospitals Vijayawada said, "A organ shared is a life saved. We are the only hospital in the state to do successful Liver, Bone Marrow and Kidney transplantations"
. He further affirmed that Organ donation is a noble cause and another way of living even after one is dead. With the help of Jeevandhan co-ordination Manipal hospital Vijayawada gave life to 7 patients (6 liver and 1kidney transplants ) were done in last 5 months. We urge people to come forward and donate organs and be a part of the noble cause."

In this programme liver transplant team - (Dr. Olithselvan , Dr.Manisegaran, Dr.Surendra.J,Dr. T.Ravi Shankar and Dr.K.Anil ), liver transplant team - (Dr.AVSSN Sridhar &Dr.G.Ravi Shankar ), Bone marrow transplant team - Dr.G.Krishna Reddy ,team of Intensivists - Dr.Srinivasa Rao,Dr Vijayanand and Dr Sunil Karanthand Dr. Rajanikanth - Medical Superintendent were participated.
