SAVANNAH, Ga. - June 22, 2016 - PRLog -- (SAVANNAH, Ga.) A program presented Tuesday, June 21 as part of the four-part Encourage Health Education series designed to promote healthy living, included a $1,000 check presentation to Urban Hope, a non-profit organization that helps inner city children create better lives for themselves.

Ellen Blossman's presentation, "Eat Well and Boost Your Energy With Phytochemicals," addressed the role of chemical compounds that occur naturally in plants and help prevent cancer and their relation to our overall health.

According to Blossman, current research has demonstrated that phytochemicals can protect and defend humans and animals from many diseases. "Phytochemicals in the vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and teas help us overcome our present health deficiencies," said Blossman.

Urban Hope, 1601 Bernard St., is a Christian ministry that provides children with hope and a sense of future. Their programs offer spiritual and educational development through after-school programs and summer camps.

Paula Kreissler, executive director of Healthy Savannah and Matt Clements, director of marketing at enmarket, presented the check to Doug Carroll, Urban Hope Board Member, and Cassie Beckwith, Executive Director of Urban Hope.

The 2016 enmarket Encourage Health Education Series is also sponsored by Healthy Savannah, Sandfly Family Dental, Gulfstream Aerospace, Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine and GPB Savannah - WSVH 91.1/WWIO 89.9.

The third lecture in the series, "10 Ways Buildings Affect Your Mission to Healthy Life," will be presented Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the auditorium of the Savannah Morning News, 1375 Chatham Parkway. It will be presented by Denise Grabowski, president and CEO of Symbioscity in Savannah.

This session will introduce the idea of the WELL Building Standard, which is grounded in medical research and based around seven main factors: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.

During this presentation, the Savannah Tree Foundation nonprofit will be presented with a $1,000 check. The Savannah Tree Foundation creates awareness of trees as vital environmental resources and an important part of our culture.
