WINTER PARK, Fla. - June 23, 2016 - PRLog -- WinterParkLostPets.com announced today that a Shih Tzu dog named Pixie became the 1,200th pet posted at WinterParkLostPets.com to find its way home safely.

"Pixie was reunited quickly," said Judy Charuhas, who co-founded WInterParkLostPets.com along with Shelley Heistand a broker with Coldwell Banker.

"Both Pixie's owner and the good Samaritan who found her posted the dog at WinterParkLostPets.com as 'lost' and 'found' respectively at the same time," said Ms Charuhas.

Pixie's owner says the dog was frightened during a recent storm and bolted from the house and yard. "Loud noises such as thunder can send some dogs and cats into a panic," says Ms Charuhas who reminds pet owners to keep their pets safe and secure during the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend.

"Historically, we see more lost pets posted during the July 4th holiday than at any other time of the year," said Ms Charuhas. "The sound of firecrackers and fireworks can frighten pets and send them running. Every year during the July 4th holiday we hear stories of terrified pets that never before made an attempt to leave their yard. Also, visitors and houseguests can leave doors and gates open."

Ms Charuhas recommends that pet owners keep their pets indoors during the July 4th holiday weekend and keep a close eye on them when fireworks are within earshot.

In conclusion Ms Charuhas said the community focus of WinterParkLostPets.com attributes greatly to its success. "If you lose a pet in Winter Park, it is likely the pet will be found or seen by someone in Winter Park."

She thanked the citizens of Winter Park and the community at large including local businesses, civic leaders and city service personnel who recommend the website. "Together we give lost pets a voice. Together we help them return home," she said.
