ACTON, Mass. - July 2, 2016 - PRLog -- Acton Family Network recently announced it has changed its name to the Acton-Boxborough Family Network (ABFN). The name change came about in response to significant growth in both membership and outreach in neighboring Boxborough, MA.  The two towns share much more than a school system and this change celebrates the strong sense of community fostered between families of Acton and Boxborough. Co-Chairwoman Curran Schiefelbein writes, "This is an exciting season for ABFN, and I hope your family will share in our fun!"

Founded in 1995 with support from First Connections and the Justice Resource Institute, strengthening the surrounding community is central to Acton-Boxborough Family Network's mission. ABFN aims to connect families with each other and with the numerous local resources. To this end, the organization fosters communication and interaction amongst its members and many social and wellness groups, including the towns' Health Departments, Acton Community Supper and Food Pantry, Household Goods, Acton-Boxborough United Way, Danny's Place,  parent-teacher organizations, early childhood education professionals, and more. ABFN's members support and benefit from these close community connections.

Acton-Boxborough Family Network has worked to increase its presence in the community by participating in events such as the Boxborough Minutemen Company's Fifer's Day, Boxborough's Winterfest, the West Acton Wellness Fair, and local preschool fairs. ABFN will also host the featured Community Table at the AB Farmer's Market on July 10. In addition to these community activities, ABFN hosts a variety of family-friendly public events throughout the year at little or no cost, including a Valentine's Day Party/Spring Fling, Kindergarten Social, Kids' Stuff Tag Sale, and Halloween Party.

More than 75 local businesses and organizations support Acton-Boxborough Family Network as Sponsors and Community Partners, offering discounts to ABFN Members and hosting groups for ABFN outings. The relationships formed are mutually beneficial - helping to advance ABFN's mission, while raising awareness about what the community has to offer.

In the past year, Acton-Boxborough Family Network has served over 200 member families and an additional 250 non-member families through more than 100 events. ABFN membership enables the entire family to participate in the many ABFN-sponsored events throughout the year: seasonal parties, monthly story hours and craft hours, community service activities, babysitting co-ops, family outings, book group, playgroups, educational seminars, moms' and dads' nights out, and more. Members also receive a bimonthly newsletter, discounts at local businesses, and access to ABFN's online forums and classifieds. ABFN offers reduced or waived membership fees for financial hardship.
