By: Asheville Signarama "I'm passionate about building relationships, creating connection, and supporting women and families in cultivating courage. Having our own space to do this good work is super exciting!" commented Chama Woydak founder and co-owner of Homegrown Babies. Chama has been teaching childbirth classes in Asheville for 14 years, and has been attending births as a certified doula since 1999. Her business partner, Jen Chandlee has been a birth, postpartum, and lactation professional since 1994. Jen's teaching focuses on the postpartum time, making the two a complementary team. "Having professional postpartum doula support can have a positive impact on breastfeeding success, postpartum mood issues, and parents overall confidence in taking care of their newborn. We ensure that new moms are getting the rest, nutrition, and support that they need to transition smoothly into their new role," Jen says. Chama and Jen are supported by a skilled, caring group of birth and postpartum doulas within Homegrown Babies. At the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center they are joined by an amazing collection of integrative practitioners. The center provides comprehensive support during all phases of life. "Our classes are about parents deepening their connections with each other, their babies, their care providers. The goal is to set a firm foundation for them to begin their first steps confidently into parenthood." The move into their new location at 201 Charlotte street happened fast, and within 30 days they needed a sign. Asheville Signarama was happy to oblige. "I was the typical client, changing everything last minute. Arlene and Laura were great; they worked with me and didn't miss a beat. Under crazy deadlines, they designed and produced our wonderful sign. I cannot recommend them highly enough." We asked Chama what is next for Homegrown Babies and the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center. "Our goals are to provide classes online, and to bridge the gap within our entire community, working with various community leaders and organizations. We hope to provide education and support to underserved populations and to continue to help empower growing families from all walks of life."
