YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - July 13, 2016 - PRLog -- The granite walls and waterfalls of Yosemite National Park draw millions of visitors each year, but the scenery that inspired John Muir and Ansel Adams hides a story the National Park Service would not want told.

'Yosemite National Park Planning' by Connor Murphy looks at Yosemite from the perspective of a professional planner who has been visiting the park for 70 years, during which he has watched the park deteriorate into an overcrowded amusement park and run down destination resort.

"On my last trip there, I felt thoroughly disgusted with the crowding, the traffic, the proliferation of inappropriate construction projects, and the desecration of nature," says Murphy, "all the result of decades of commercial plundering and inept national park planning."

Beginning with a brief history of Yosemite's planning, Murphy points out little known facts about park management and the federal policy of making a profit, even at nature's expense.

Across a dozen chapters, Murphy draws on his 30 years of professional experience to describe commonly used planning processes and procedures while pointing out how and why the National Park Service refuses to follow them.

The book ends with a call for park visitors and green activists to take responsibility for further Yosemite National Park Planning.

In 1897 John Muir cautioned "God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand straining, leveling tempests and floods; but he cannot save them from fools.—only Uncle Sam can do that."

But now it seems, Uncle Sam has forsaken Yosemite.
