SANTA CLARA, Calif. - July 21, 2016 - PRLog -- • 35+ cancer centers now use iQueue for Infusion Centers to maximize chair utilization
100,000+ additional infusion treatments made possible with predictive analytics

LeanTaaS, a leading predictive analytics company for healthcare, today announced that iQueue for Infusion Centers now manages 1,000+ infusion chairs across more than 35 leading cancer centers in the nation, including dozens of NCCN and NCI-designated centers. The company recently signed five new customers to join its existing customer base, which includes Stanford Health Care, University of Colorado Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, to cross this milestone.

iQueue combines lean principles and predictive analytics to optimize use of infusion chairs at infusion treatment centers. Launched in 2014, iQueue for Infusion Centers has seen significant demand and shown high ROI at some of the nation's largest healthcare organizations. Adopters have seen notable improvements in operational performance, including 30 percent shorter wait times for patients, 20+ percent increased patient volume from level loading chair capacity, improved staff satisfaction and a remarkable reduction in the number of occasions when a waitlist for chairs has to be created.

Institutions using iQueue collectively represent over 1,000 infusion chairs, and the capacity improvements across these chairs from using iQueue represent over 100,000 more infusion treatments being administered per year. This significant increase in access to care for cancer patients would not have been possible without the advanced data science and "level loading" capabilities delivered by iQueue.

"Before iQueue went live at our infusion center, we would frequently run out of chairs in the middle of the day, leading to long wait times for patients. We also experienced a consistent work overload for nurses which raised real concerns about their ability to provide the level of care for their patients that we all expect," said Brian Shields, lead process improvement engineer at UCHealth in Colorado. "After we deployed iQueue, we were able to reduce the frequency of days that we ran out of chairs by over 88 percent, reduce our patient wait times by 33 percent at the peak and improve both the nurse and patient experiences. It's great to hear that other cancer centers are experiencing the same success with iQueue as we are."

"It's extraordinary to see iQueue for Infusion Centers grow from one center and 60 chairs to more than 35 centers and 1,000 chairs in a short span of two years. I am excited that we have some of the biggest names in cancer care as our customers and look forward to helping many more infusion centers solve the very real and difficult problem of underutilization of resources in our healthcare system," said Mohan Giridharadas, CEO of LeanTaaS.

The demand for healthcare services is on the rise; in addition to secular trends like aging, provisions of the ACA are leading to higher volumes of patients in hospitals. At the same time, hospitals are also facing cost and margin pressures that require them to do more with less. This is even more pronounced for cancer care where the number of new cancer cases is expected to rise by about 70 percent over the next two decades. Mathematical optimization techniques are necessary for managing the rising demand for healthcare. Advanced mathematics and data science can help infusion centers schedule better so their chairs are level-loaded across the day and accommodate 20-30 percent more patients. Such level loading of appointments also leads to shorter patient wait times and thus improves the patient experience.

"iQueue for Infusion Centers uses data science to radically improve infusion center performance. We're solving an extremely difficult problem and clearly our customers are seeing tangible value. I am incredibly proud of the team and humbled by this milestone," said Sofia DeMarco, senior product manager at LeanTaaS.

About iQueue for Infusion Centers

Most infusion centers experience the "10-2 peak" problem: The day begins slowly, and then all of the chairs are occupied from late morning to early afternoon before slowing back down in the evening — and the pattern returns the next day. This leads to long patient wait times at peak hours, underutilized resources during mornings and evenings, and unnecessary staff overtime.

iQueue mines historical appointment data, understands operating constraints and staff schedules, and streamlines patient flow such that patients are "level loaded" evenly throughout the day as they are scheduled. Within weeks of deploying iQueue, hospitals see lower patient wait times, higher patient volumes and significantly better nurse satisfaction. iQueue works seamlessly with any EHR system, is easy to deploy and secure to use. In addition to smarter patient scheduling templates, iQueue provides many valuable operational tools such as a daily huddle report, patient-to-nurse allocation module, daily/weekly/monthly performance summaries, and community-powered best practices and Q&A.
