SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 22, 2016 - PRLog -- Hubert Rampersad, Ph.D.-- Companies are increasingly looking to innovate via design thinking as a principal source of sustainable competitive advantage. Design thinking taps into the creative abilities we all have. It relies on our ability to be creative, to construct ideas that are emotionally meaningful and to transform difficult challenges into desirable solutions.

In this column we focus on a human centric and customer centric design thinking methodology, which is developed by the Center of Excellence in Design Thinking at the Innovation University of Silicon Valley in San Jose. This approach entails a holistic and authentic problem solving system that focuses on the emotional responses of employees and customers, providing the right customer experience. It is based on developing a thorough understanding of what the user goals are from multiple viewpoints – emotional, psychological and behavioral.

Through an iterative process of exploring, ideation, prototyping, implementing, our innovative design thinking approach will help you craft an experience that is meaningful to the person engaged with it. It's about a mindset change that draws upon the interaction of all these components. It also focuses on relationships, behavior and real human interactions and emotions. It is a cognitive and intellectual process that balances the rational and emotional –combining left brain and right brain thinking. It harmonizes with other modes of thinking and closes knowledge and information gaps. It includes how an entity currently lives in the ecosystem, how individuals or groups interact with that entity and the nature, and how the different elements in the environment relate to one another.

Our innovative design thinking approach is a response to the increasing complexity of products, for example software that needs to be integrated with hardware to make products more user friendly. It is not exclusive to designers, it is a way of life to enhance existing skills, behaviors and techniques.
