SAN DIEGO - Aug. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- The Purple Heart was first issued on February 22, 1932, to servicemembers injured or killed in the line of duty from April 5, 1917, the day before the United States entered World War I, onward to the present day.

Since it was authorized to award, 1,910,162 soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and coast guardsmen have received the award. Many recipients were awarded the medal posthumously, while many more received the medal as a result of injuries in action against the enemy.

It is an honor with few peers in the United States. To be a purple heart recipient means to sacrifice, to give blood for this nation.
