The concept of organising an HR Round Table for seniors in the sector of oil and gas was conceived in the year 2002. Since then, the programme has been observed annually serving as the only platform to allow the senior HR professionals to talk about their particular topic of their interest. To start, an experienced HR professional is identified from the relevant industry and asked to serve as the Programme Director. The Steering Committee Thereafter, he acts as a key member of the Steering Committee including senior HR professionals who become a part of it hailing from popular oil and gas companies. The Steering Committee decides upon a particular topic every year with UPES in tow as the economic backup. Thereafter, a senior professor interviews members from the steering committee for their views on a chosen topic. These interviews are quite helpful in preparing the background paper for separate topics from four specific seasons that go on for the entire day. An hour's panel discussion sees participation from 4-5 CEOs who are keen to come up with something innovative on each chosen topic. Some of the most common subject areas highlighted during the past discussions include – competency driven HR systems and processes. Topics Discussed Over Past Round Tables Then, topics discussed were like creating Gen-next oil and gas business leaders, discovering new talent and HR contribution to the bottom-line and enterprise value. Following these, there have been discussions over leveraging outsourcing for competitive success, optimization, people practices to future proof organisations and talent portfolio management. The committee members also pondered over topics, such as meeting HR challenges through organizational transformation processes in the hydrocarbon sector. In addition, deliberations were ripe over monetizing talent through explorations, development, production, refining and optimizing talent reservoirs through strategic outsourcing. Furthermore, members exchanged views on repositioning oil and gas as an attractive talent destination and strategic HRM challenges in the deregulated hydrocarbon sector. They also talked about the strategic business and technical challenges for developing, retaining and deploying talent for the natural gas business.
