Artist Statement

My work illuminates society's collective memories in works molded from packaging and other discarded objects. Utilizing the automatic process of the Surrealist, I allow each piece to communicate to me. The random elements drawn magnetically together express themselves to create a narrative without any direct influence from me, the artist. I am a messenger of images. I do not choose the subject nor the mediums, yet the alluring textures, details, pigments, and subjects bid inquisition. The construction of the multi-generational assemblages are molded again and cast again in ancient materials such as bronze, cement, glass, clay, or paper, and other modern materials such as plastic, and carbon fiber, creating journeys of the imagination of magical and mystical magnitude.

Project Description

On the Roof came about from a larger installation project in progress, 100 Drummers on the Roof.  That installation's original concept; to drum in the arrival of something grand. The drummers keep "jumping off" and becoming other works. The figures in this current  work have landed on the roof and are surveying the situation and conditions of the place. This piece's vertically inspired tiers provide a tower, on a bridge over water, accommodating a municipal square. It is texturally rich, plays with a fantastical scale, full of  unexplainable wonder, and encourages idea exchange. The work asks, why are they here on the roof, and what do they want?
