By: Wanda DeHaven Pyle The Bookvana Awards are a new speciality book awards honoring books that elevate society, celebrate the human spirit, and cultivate our inner lives. Jeffery Keen, President and CEO of i310 Media Group, said this year's contest yielded hundreds of entries from authors and publishers around the world, which were then narrowed down to the final results. Wanda DeHaven Pyle was honored as a top finalist in the category of Fiction: Historical for her fictional memoir, Windborne. The book draws heavily on the author's childhood experiences growing up in the Flint Hills of Kansas to chronicle a story of three generations of women who triumph over heartache, poverty and abuse to pursue the dream of a better life. Their lives paint a portrait of a country as it grows and changes with the world around it. "Once I began this work, it took on a life of its own and I found myself completely captivated by the relationships and motiviations of the charcters. I believe there are lessons to be learned here that will be of great interest to other mothers and daughters," Pyle said. Skillfully creating compassionate characters with a range of emotions, Windborne is a novel unique in style and scope. Set against a historical backdrop of major economic and cultural changes of the past century, it is an elegantly timeless tale about the nature of love, loss and awakening. Wanda DeHaven Pyle grew up in the Kansas Flint Hills and her recollections of life on the tallgrass prairie have influenced her writing. Throughout her career as a teacher and administrator, she has mentored and inspired women in leadership roles and she continues to motivate and encourage women to reach thier full potential. She currently lives in Claremont, California with her husband and spends her retirement years traveling, writing, and volunteering her time to support at-risk children. She is also the author of The Stone House Legacy: Book I of the Legacy Trilogy. Book II, The Steel Canyon Legacy is due out in September, 2016.
