BEND, Ore. - Aug. 30, 2016 - PRLog -- According to recent statistics, since October 1st 2001 over 52,351 service men and women have been wounded in action. Of those wounded in battle, over 1,645 have suffered major amputations. Thousands more suffer from PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and on average twenty-two veterans a day commit suicide.

It is an undeniable fact that our brave service men and women have sacrificed a tremendous amount to ensure the protection of our freedom. After suffering life changing injuries, many of them return home to a house that no longer supports their new needs. Halls may be too narrow, cabinets too high, and stairs may no longer be an option. The sad truth is, because of this, these brave men and women are constantly reminded of what they no longer have (instead of empowered to focus on all the amazing things they still do).

In response to this glaring need, and a deep love for the military, David Didier and Anna Schaff have founded the Homegrown Heroes Foundation. Still in the early stages of development, David and Anna are partnering with individuals and organizations to raise the $50,000 necessary to get this foundation off of the ground. The money (which can be donated at http://homegrownheroesfoundation.org/donate/) will be used to properly file all of the 501(c)3 paperwork, complete a strategic plan, secure a grant writer, and build a sustainable funding plan to support the building of multiple houses as a long lasting legacy for our veterans.

In David's words, "We are all supposed to feel like the king or queen of our castle. Unfortunately, so many of our wounded service men and women no longer feel that way. Given their new needs, their homes make life more of a struggle than it needs to be. We want to change that. We want to build homes for these heroes that work with them and not against them. That allow them to focus on all the amazing things they still have in their lives, not what has been taken away."

For Anna, having a family member in the service has made her realize how difficult it is for all military families to have love ones away at war. She knows how powerful genuine love and support can be, and she wanted to do her part to support the families and the heroes she cares so deeply about.

About Homegrown Heroes Foundation: Homegrown Heroes Foundation is a non-profit organization that's mission is to build homes for wounded service men and women that fits with their needs. With the plan to build one house in 2017, the organization's long term growth plan is to build, on average, one house a month.
