In India teacher's day is celebrated on 5^th of September every year, which is also the date of birth of our first vice president and second president Dr.  Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was an Indian philosopher and statesman. He was one of the most distinguished scholar and his academic appointments includes the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta (1921–1932) and Spalding Professor of Eastern Religion and Ethics at University of Oxford (1936–1952).

When he become president of India some of the students and friends requested to celebrate his birthday and he said,"Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers' Day" and that is how teacher's day celebration begins in India.

Importance of teacher in India can be sum up in one salok:
गुरुर्ब्रह्माग्रुरुर्विष्णुःगुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः।

गुरुःसाक्षात्परंब्रह्मतस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः

Salok in Sanskrit language which means teacher is creator, preserver and also destroyer. He is the source of absolute and I offer all my greeting to my teacher. That is the importance and impact of teachers on life of students.
