By: Face-to-Face Technology Training Face-to-Face Technology Training There's a big storm already slamming the east coast. This is the first big storm of the season and it won't be the last. This is the time you need to consider how to make sure your electronics survive the storm so they can be used now and in the future. Five tips for preparing your electronics before a storm 1. Unplug your devices. Surge protectors are not enough. They age and lose efficiency essentially becoming nothing more than fancy plug strips. Replace them every 2-3 years. 2. Get a good battery backup for your mobile devices and make sure it is charged. Test it with your devices before power goes down to be sure. A good battery backup should be able to charge your cell phone many as five times. 3. Find the cable between the backup and the phone and make sure it works. If you don't have cables that work, the backup is of no use. 4. Make sure you have a small flashlight and extra batteries so you can work with all the technology. You could use the flashlight function on your phone, but that will use battery power. 5. Have a water proof container to hold all your electronics and cables so they have a better chance of surviving a storm.
