SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sept. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- The Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce, with the help of its legislative representative K. Patrice Williams, J.D., has worked over the last few months to develop and market Prosper 2016, its major policy initiative outreach program.  Chamber CEO and President Azizza Davis Goines will travel with a group of business, city and other dignitaries to Washington D.C. this week to host a workshop highlighting the program's concerns in the areas of economic development, healthcare and environmental issues for minority communities at the 46th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference. The conference is planned each year by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF).

President Barack Obama will speak on the last night of the event and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will receive the foundation's "Trailblazer Award" for her achievements and work with communities of color.

"We start each year with a look at the most pressing problems affecting underrepresented communities; we identify areas where new policy is needed, then do the kind of outreach with our elected officials and the public that we think is necessary to bring about change," says Goines.

"I am happy to have been a part of the Prosper initiative effort for the last three years," says Williams, president/CEO and owner of the policy advocacy firm BrandGOV.  It's exciting and encouraging to see businesses, public sector agencies, organizations and the community getting involved."  She and her firm assisted in developing policy initiatives for Prosper 2016; wrote the marketing and social media outreach plan and designed the program's branding graphics.

Although the chamber started the Prosper initiative in 2010, this is the first workshop that it will host as part of the CBCF conference.  It will take place on Thursday, September 15, at 3:30pm.  Panelist will include Nicole Howard, chief customer officer at SMUD; Veronica Smith, director for SEED, City of Sacramento; Dr. Greg Buchert, chief medical officer for California Health Net; Dr. Elaine Batchlor, president and chief executive officer of MLK Jr. Community Hospital, Los Angeles; and Leonard Robison, president and senior strategist for EnviroBro, LLC, an environmental services consulting firm based in Maryland.

The event will be held at the Walter E Washington Convention Center in D.C.  Anyone interested in attending or getting involved in any way with Prosper 2017 should visit www.sacblackchamber.org or call the chamber at 916-231-0416.

In addition to the chamber, this year's sponsors of the program include the Economic Development Department of the City of Sacramento; California Health and Wellness; California Telehealth Network; BrandGOV; SMUD; EnviroBro; PGE and McDonalds.
